Product Description
Therapeutic actions:Tinidazole is an antimicrobial agent. It fights infections your body. Tinidazole is used to treat certain intestinal infections, liver infections and sexually transmitted diseases. Tinidazole may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Indications:
Tindamax (tinidazole) is an agent for the treatment of infections due to the protozoa Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
Tindamax (tinidazole) is specifically indicated for the oral treatment of:
• Urogenital trichomoniasis in both male and female patients. When infection with Trichomonas vaginalis is confirmed, simultaneous treatment of the consort is recommended.
• Giardiasis.
• Intestinal amoebiasis and amoebic involvement of the liver.
Tindamax (tinidazole) has been successfully used in:
• The prevention of postoperative infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, especially infections after colonic, gastro-intestinal and gynaecological surgery.
• The treatment of infections due to strains of anaerobic bacteria such as susceptible strains of Bacteroides species, Fusobacterium species, peptococci, peptostreptococci, clostridia, eubacteria and veillonella. The treatment of acute ulcerative gingivitis.
Contraindications and cautions:
Tindamax (tinidazole) is contra-indicated in patients having, or with a history of, blood dyscrasia although no persistent haematological abnormalities have been noted in clinical or animal studies. Tindamax (tinidazole) should be avoided in patients with organic neurological disorders. Use of Tindamax is contra-indicated during pregnancyand in nursing mothers. Tindamax (tinidazole) should not be administered to patients with a known hypersensitivity to the drug or to any of its components.
Side effects:
Gastro-intestinal side effects include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhoea, metallic taste and abdominal pain. Tindamax may produce transient leucopenia. Other less frequently reported side-effects are headache, tiredness, furry tongue and dark urine. Hypersensitivity reactions, occasionally severe, may occur less frequently in the form of skin rash, pruritis, urticaria and angioneurotic oedema.
Interactions:
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
• a barbiturate such as phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton), amobarbital (Amytal), or secobarbital (Seconal);
• warfarin (Coumadin);
• cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune) or tacrolimus (Prograf);
• fluorouracil (Adrucil, Efudex, Carac, Flurorplex);
• cholestyramine (Questran);
• oxytetracycline (Terramycin);
• phenytoin (Dilantin);
• lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others). drugs other than those listed here may also interact with tinidazole.
Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
Do not drink alcohol while taking tinidazole and for 3 days after finishing the medication. Flushing, fast heartbeats, severe nausea, vomiting and sweating may occur when alcohol is ingested during tinidazole therapy.
